They go for cheap because not a single one of them can actually be driven on the roads.

This is true. But some of these cars that cant be driven will go for over $100,000 easily. So its just fun to see the ones that people dont car about nearly as much.

The Prodigy is just a shell, the others could be driven but it would be illegal since they cant be registered for road use.

But what if you took say the body of that explorer and dropped it onto a standard explorer chassis? Or the Sunfire onto any of those little GM’s chassis? IT would probably bolt right up and you could probably steal the vin plate of the original car.

I know Missouri has a process to title a car on a bill of sale, provided it’s over 7 years old... And if you can keep them in a barn until they turn 25, then you can make a BoS and take them for inspection by the state of Kansas and tag them, that way.

Bad ideas... That’s all.

Here’s Steve’s Bad Idea of the day:

Take P2000 Prodigy
Install 3.5 ecoboost/awd drivetrain
Install gauges that work
Go to DMV and register it as a “ Specially Constructed Vehicle ”(check state laws. Mr. Lehto could probably help you in Michigan)
Have VIN assigned by state DMV
Have a badass and absolutely one-of-a-kind sub-3000 lb sport sedan with nearly 400 hp and all wheel drive.

For far less money and mass than a new Taurus SHO

That’s only true if the car is either a) memorable due to its styling/performance or b) an important milestone or stepping stone toward vehicular greatness.

Example a: Ford Indigo concept

Kinja'd!!!

Example b: ‘03 Ford Mustang GT Coupe concept that laid the groundwork for the S197

Kinja'd!!!

If it’s neither, then it’s worth pennies on the dollar. Collectors desire something that other people want but can’t have. If a car have any significance that people can remember or get hyped up about then it’s going to be worth something big.

they are not exactly “my” rules.

you cant just swap out VINs from one car to another. you can however replace or repair parts, cabs included. but you have to have documentation and reciepts for the serial numbers on the big stuff.

you dont want to even try to reassign a title to, if im not mistaken arizona? or might have been new mexico. you got to have documentation for every part that came off something else. engines transmissions, frames, differentials. horror storries.

in Texas so long as stuff is more than about 20 years old they dont get looked over too often.

inspection stations are supposed to, whenever you renew tags.

Wait, what?

I thought that concepts had to be crushed if the manufacturer didn’t want to store them in a museum or something. Nice to see these still exist.

Like many modern concept vehicles, non-operational “roller cars” without drivetrains are also constructed as static display models, as seen here.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The vehicle runs and drives but is not DOT or EPA certified. It cannot be registered for highway use in the United States and is offered on a Bill of Sale only.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

THIS IS A CONCEPT VEHICLE. NEITHER GM NOR BARRETT-JACKSON MAKE ANY WARRANTY OR REPRESENTATION OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, CONCERNING THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING NO WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE VEHICLE IS NOT CERTIFIED TO COMPLY WITH ANY FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL LAWS, RULES OR REGULATIONS AND MAY NOT BE DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADS.

Interesting. So why does anything get crushed if selling them is an option?

I’m actually from Michigan where we have no inspection and they don’t even look at the car when they issue a title....lol
